GARABATO: Cuentos Infantiles, A Spanish Resource for Young Readers

For those of you raising bilingual children, be sure to check out Garabato, and on-line treasury of Spanish children's stories. This amazing site has an incredible number of cuentos, in a variety of formats that are perfect for read-alouds to beginning readers.

The site includes everything from audio stories, to picturebooks, to tales on video. It also has rebus stories, which I know many beginning readers enjoy. You can even look up stories in alphabetical order. They also have 157 Hans Christian Anderson stories, 300 Aesop's Fables, 47 plays, more than 2000 adages, 149 tongue-twisters, and much, much more!

But I think that the part I like best is their links to fascinating resources like Chiquijote, a Don Quijote manuscript written for children by Tomelloso, a municipality in Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. Or el rincón de los villancicos, a website dedicated completely to villancicos. Or like Garabata, a comprehensive collection of poetry needed by pre-k and elementary educators for early education.

This site is truly a gem for bilingual families and Spanish teachers. It is simply organized and easy to navigate. Go and take a look yourself!

Con mucho cariño...
